4021 Reducer is a dilutant used for thinning water-based paint. 4021 Reducer appears clear in the bottle and does not affect color when mixed with paints.
4021 Reducer is compatible with and recommended as a thinner for all Createx paints and clears.
Mixing
4021 Reducer is generally added to 10% to 30% per volume to Createx paints.
- spray Gun: generally added ~ 10% per volume for paint to atomize well using a 1.2mm to 1.3mm tip-sized gun sprayed at the gun’s recommended inlet psi.
- Airbrush: generally added ~ 10 – 30% per volume depending upon color type, airbrush tip-size, psi and subjective preference.
For optimized performance, after adding 4021 Reducer, allow 10 or more minutes for the ethylene glycol in 4021 Reducer to acclimate with the paint before spraying.
4021 Reducer breaks down the water’s surface tension which promotes flow and leveling.
When adding 4030 Balancing Clear to paints, stir 4030 into paint first then add 4021 Reducer.
Stir 4021 Reducer into paint. Do not shake.
Pot-Life & Storage4021 Reducer can be added to any Createx paints and stored for an indefinite time period (meaning the reduced mixture can last in a good, sprayable condition for several weeks if not months) when the reduced paint mixture is capped air-tight and stored in a cool, dry environment kept away from direct light.
Comparison to 4011 Reducer and other thinners4021 Reducer has a slower evaporation rate compared to 4011 Reducer, which allows paints mixed with 4021 to flow and level better, enhancing the finish by reducing brush marks and spray irregularities.
4021 Reducer virtually eliminates tip-dry. Createx paints have much less tip-dry when thinned with 4021 Reducer compared to thinning with 4011 Reducer.
Createx paints can be thinned generously with 4021 Reducer so colors spray well at reduced pressures without a stippled appearance, allowing colors to blend and transition seamlessly. Thinning with 4011 Reducer does not create this effect.
Generously thinning Createx paint with 4021 Reducer and allowing the mixed paint 10+ minutes acclimation time to reduce surface-tension is similar to “over-reducing” a solvent-based urethane paint before airbrushing, allowing the colors to “melt-in” and spray without any texture, or stippled effect.
Both 4011 Reducer and 4021 Reducer can be used with any Createx paint and are generally added to colors at the same volume, although due to its ability to improve flow and leveling more than 4011 Reducer, 4021 Reducer can be added in less volume to Createx paints.
Health & Safety
Use in a well-ventilated area. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water after use. Do not ingest.
When spraying, use a properly-fitting NIOSH approved respirator.
Skin contact: Thoroughly wash with soap and warm water. Wearing gloves is recommended.
Eye contact: Rinse with clean water for 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
